Laser Hair Removal - Personal Experience Of Permanent Hair Removal – Consultation

By

Laser hair removal claims to be the easiest way to achieve permanent hair removal. This treatment can be done on both men and women on any part of the body. It is a system designed to permanently get rid of any unwanted body hair by burning away the hair follicle using heat and light from the laser. It is strongly recommended to only use clinics that are care standards registered to ensure that you are being treated by fully qualified professionals delivering the highest standard of care. As mentioned in a previous hub, I have been doing a lot of research into this procedure and am very interested in trying it out. So what things did I need to consider before this could go ahead?

I did my research on clinic's that were in a reasonable distance from where I live. Admittedly the first thing I looked for was the price lists( if your in America then I'm sorry I cant help you with prices as pointed out to me in a previous hub they vary a lot compared to England). I found a clinic that was very near to where I live and at that point in time had a 30% discount on all laser hair removal procedures. So after discussing it with people close to me, I decided to bight the bullet and make the call.

Making An Appointment

The receptionist was very polite and she stated the name of the clinic and asked how she could help. I replied by saying I was enquiring about laser hair removal, before I could say another word, she gave me my next steps:

  • Come to the clinic for a free consultation, and a patch test.

  • Shave the area about 3 days before the consultation so that the hairs are between 1-2 mm long,

  • Wear loose clothing to ensure your comfortable after the test treatment.

So that's what happened, an appointment was made , I shaved and I went to the consultation.

Consultation Time

I arrived at the clinic and it was immaculate inside, I'd never been in a place like his before. The practitioner was ready to talk to me, so we went into a private room. My practitioner was called Julie, she was ever so friendly, and put me at ease straight away. She went through photo's of previous clients and discussed how minimal the risks were – the improvements were amazing, hair free. She said for what I wanted doing it would take between 6 – 8 treatments which I was happy with. She ensured that I was certain with my decision and we signed all the contracts and paperwork. I was excited, it was time for my patch test!

The Patch Test

Julie showed me through to the treatment room, it reminded me a lot of a dentist room, there was a large leather reclining chair, I could see the machines with the lasers, and a cooling machine. It looked nice, I suppose, not scary anyway. I have light brown hair naturally and pale/ tanned skin, so it takes more treatments for me, if you have darker hair and paler skin it would take fewer treatments, but I was happy. The practitioner was doing the patch test on my under arm as that is one place I was having the treatment. I was rather nervous because, even though she'd explained it to me, I wasn't sure what to expect. Julie applied some cooling gel to the area, it was only a patch about the size of your finger tip. She reassured me it wasn't that bad and started using the laser. It didn't hurt much at all, it was like the feeling of a hamster running over your skin, so I was happy. After wards she checked the area and said it was a success the hair follicle was slightly red and swollen and there was slight water retention – which is a good sign. She applied some aloe vera gel which is used to soothe burns and that was that.

What's Next For Me

I decided to go ahead with the laser hair removal and I booked my first treatment, yeah, I'm really excited, one step closer to not having to shave any more! Great! I paid a deposit and the remainder of the bill was to be paid on my first treatment. That was it, no pain, no mess, I was able to go home straight away and get on with my daily life as normal.

So that's how my consultation went. I ensured the clinic was standard care registered, my first impressions were good, everything was thoroughly explained to me, the practitioner ensured that I was certain I wanted to proceed, and a patch test was done to make sure there were no adverse reactions. All the staff at the clinic were friendly and welcoming. All these reasons helped me make my decision, I was comfortable and calm and ready to go ahead. I'm really happy with the price I paid - £630 for 6 sessions on my underarm and bikini. So now I just have to wait for treatment number one to begin, I'll let you know how it goes!
