Pesky, unwanted, irritating hairs permanently gone, can this really happen? Well that is what I am in the process of finding out and want to share with you. Permanent laser hair removal is it effective?

I have booked and paid for a course of 6 laser treatments on my under arms and bikini line. So this is an overall review of my personal experience so far. In previous articles I've wrote an over view of what laser hair removal is, and also about my initial consultation at the clinic. This article is about my first appointment to actually laser away my unwanted hair.

Do you feel at ease in the process? Does it hurt? Are there side effects? Are the results immediate? What is the whole experience like? Ever wondered these questions, well hopefully after reading this those questions will be answered.

Do You Feel At Ease During The Process Of Laser Hair Removal

I've never had anything like this done before so I was rather nervous. I had been to a consultation before hand and the practitioner, who would be doing the treatment, told me what would happen. I went into the treatment room and had to strip to my underwear (rather embarrassing but it's the only way). The room was totally private and my practitioner was strictly professional, so I didn't mind to much. She asked if I was comfortable and ready for treatment to begin. Did I feel comfortable, well – I didn't like being practically naked, but I wanted the treatment doing, so I soon got over myself and felt fine.

Does It Hurt?

After my initial consultation I had a patch test done, or in other words a test on my underarms to see how it felt and to see how I reacted to the laser, I described the pain being like a hamster running on your skin. That was in a small area, so did it feel different on my full underarm and bikini area? Yes. The pain isn't unbearable but it hurts, especially on your bikini line. It feels like a sharp sting or stabbing sensation over and over again, but you just have to think about the finished results. There was a pipe that the practitioner gave me to hold over the treated areas which blew out cold air so that felt nice.

Are There Side Effects?

Having a laser, beam a strong light that turns into heat and to destroy your hair follicle, surely there has to be side effects. There was but tiny side effects, the pain was one, then afterwards my skin was red and a little bit swollen. This is actually a good sign as it shows that the treatment worked. I got told to use aloe vera gel to soothe any irritation and cool the skin, it feels slimy but it works and I had no problems.

Are The Results Immediate After The First Session?

Easy answer – no! A few hairs do fall out immediately, but not enough to make a noticeable difference. The practitioner said it would take up to two weeks for the hairs to fully fall out, and that is only in the successful areas, not every hair would come out in the first attempt. So after two weeks are there results – yes! I'm now patchy! It looks odd, but I'm happy with the results so far. I know that it takes more than one session which Is why I booked a course of 6.

How Was The Whole Experience?

I felt at ease and comfortable knowing that I was in capable hands. The staff at the clinic were so friendly and professional which made me feel better and I soon lost my nerves. The chair / bed I was on for the treatment was comfortable and the practitioner talked to me all the time I was there, making sure it didn't hurt to much and that I was happy. It did hurt but it wasn't that bad, I suppose it's like having a tattoo, it hurts but if you want the results you can live with the pain. After two weeks I'm really happy and can't wait for my next treatment, I'm one step closer to ridding myself of these pesky unwanted hairs!

Mvaivata,

Thank you for an insiders view of what it's like to have this type of hair removal. You were honest and I feel better about the whole thing after reading your hub. Lisa
