Permanent Laser Hair Removal, IPL and Lightsheer lasers - Prices, Time Scale, Side Effects

In this article we're going to look at Permanent Laser Hair Removal, what it is, what it involves, the risks, the benefits, and the cost. There are many ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair such as shaving, waxing, sugaring, threading, plucking and more. Some procedures are more effective than others and some are more painful than others. But Laser Hair Removal claims to be the most effective permanent hair removal solution available with very little pain. As soon as I heard that, I was instantly intrigued, and wanted to know more. If there is a solution to removing unwanted body hair, that didn’t involve me constantly having to shave, I want to know about it.
I've been spending my time researching about Permanent Hair Removal. Unwanted and excess hair on the face and body can be an embarrassment to many people. Men and women both have hairs in places where they're not wanted and this treatment is for those people. For me shaving all the time is time consuming, and a task I'd rather do without out. So I'm interested. Laser hair removal can be done on any part of the body no area is out of limits. This article shows you what I found out.
What Is Permanent Laser Hair Removal?
This term refers to an area of hair being treated by a laser, the laser uses light energy which runs through the melanin in the hair, and turns into heat, as it travels, and then burns the hair follicle which prevents the hair regrowing. Melanin is the colour pigmentation in your hairs. Sounds logical to me, without a hair follicle the hair cant grow, which is why it is permanent. There are 2 types of laser that are commonly used one is called IPL and one is called Light Sheer. Both lasers do the same thing but they are for different areas of the body and for different hair types. For the best results you need to have pale skin and dark hair, but they claim that any person can have laser hair removal as long as the hair is a pigment darker than the skin and the hair has some pigment. So laser hair removal will not work if you have very blonde/ white hairs.
Time Scale
Laser hair removal isn't an instant process. On average for complete hair removal it takes a course of 6- 8 treatments, with a time period of 4- 6 weeks in between each one. So basically it's a treatment every month meaning on average it will take between 6-8 months for your desired results. Seems a long time, but you can shave during this time spell, it doesn't mean you have to be hairy all that time. I suppose if you really want to be permanently hair free you wont mind waiting. It's either 6- 8 months of waiting or shaving forever!
Side Effects During and After Treatment
Laser Hair Removal doesn't seem to have a lot of side effects or be a dangerous procedure. The things you should be aware of are:
-
There may be some pain during the treatment, as the hair follicle is being burnt, the pain is said to be similar to the flicking of an elastic band, some patients have said it hurt more than others, so be aware of your pain levels.
-
After treatment there will be slight swelling in the treated area, and there may be slight water retention – these are actually a good sign, it shows the procedure has worked, but may be a little uncomfortable, so loose clothing is recommended.
-
The treated area may be red and sore due to the heat energy burning the follicle so many clinics recommend aloe-vera gel to apply for 3 days afterwards.
-
If the skin is very similar to the colour of the hair there might be a chance of temporary skin pigmentation (the colour of your skin changes darker or lighter) but a practitioner would discuss this with you before hand.
-
Occasionally people do suffer from severe burns from the laser and images of these are quite disturbing, that is why it is so important to go to a care registered clinic ensuring any bad side effects wont occur due to lack of experience or knowledge.
Price's
This is a tricky area to summarise as I have found a varying price range from clinic to clinic and it also depends on the area you want your treatments so my best advise for you is to shop around, don't just go with your fist offer. Lots of clinic's also do discounts at certain times in the year so if your not in a hurry, hang on until you find the perfect deal for you. For an example one clinic for underarm hair removal costs £100 for one session, £500 for six sessions and £700 for eight sessions. Where as another clinic, for under arm hair removal, had an offer so for a treatment of six sessions it cost £350. So there is a big price range these clinics can work with. One thing I did find in my research was that every site strongly recommended that you get a 'care quality commission registered' clinic to ensure the practitioners have been fully trained and know what they are doing and that you get the best care for your money.

So that's the basics of Permanent Laser Hair Removal. It is what it says. A laser will remove your unwanted hair by burning the hair follicle - preventing regrowth. It is quite a costly procedure but if you want to be hair free bad enough, I'm sure it's cost effective. Shop around to get the best price for you and look out for offers and discounts. It does take a long time to get the finished result so you'll need to be patient and willing to wait. There may be some pain involved but to be honest who hasn't made their eyes water by waxing and threading, it comes with the territory. Make sure you use a registered clinic to ensure you get the best care. I've actually made myself an appointment for a consultation and am having some treatment done, so I'll let you know how my hair removal goes! I can be your guinea pig!

I've considered laser hair removal many times, but had a hard time researching it. Unfortunately in the states it's much more expensive. I haven't found anything below $800 per session. Perhaps I'll keep searching though. Thanks for writing this informative hub! Voted up and useful/interesting.
